When trading in the financial markets, you may face the decision of whether to fully close a trade to secure your profits or partially close your position to lock in gains while allowing the remaining portion of the trade to continue. Partial closing is an effective strategy to manage risk while maintaining market exposure.

Steps to partially close a trade in MetaTrader

🔹Open the trade modification window

• Right-click on the open order you wish to modify.
• Select “Modify or Delete” to open the order modification window.

🔹Choose market execution

• In the order modification window, set the execution type to "Market Execution" if it is not already selected.
• Locate the Volume field and enter the amount you want to close.
• Example: If your total position size is 1.0 lot and you want to close 0.5 lots, enter 0.5 in the volume field.
• Click the yellow "Close" button to confirm and execute the partial closure of your trade.

The remaining portion of your trade will stay open until manually closed or triggered by a stop loss or take profit level.
